Talon Ray Johll

Talon Ray Johll, beloved newborn son of Kevin and Laura Johll, passed away on July 21, 2012, at Franciscan Skemp in La Crosse.

He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Laura, a brother, Tanner all of Bloomington; his paternal grandparents, Jim and Becky Johll, and a great-grandmother, Margaret Johnson, all of Glen Haven; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other loving relatives.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Raymond Konichek, Sr; a cousin, Julie Konichek; paternal great-grandparents, Carl and Viola Johll and Carl Johnson; paternal great-great grandparents, Ralph and Hazel Hamilton; and great uncle, Mick "Chub" Johll.

Private family services will be held. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is serving the family.

Donald Johnson

Donald W. "Donnie Little" Johnson, age 45 of Potosi, passed away on Monday May 1, 2017 at his home. He was born November 2, 1971, the son of Donald and Nancy (Tischendorf) Johnson. Don graduated from Potosi High School in 1989. On May 18, 1996 Don was united into marriage to Christie L. Cull. He was employed by the Prism Corporation. Don was currently self employed as a carpenter. He was an avid outdoorsman. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting trap, four wheeling, and hanging out with his friends.

Surviving is wife Christie, Children; Nicole Potter, Jasen (Crystal Bensley) Johnson, Liza Johnson, William Johnson, Kalie Potter, two grandchildren; Jayden and Aubri Johnson, and his parents; Don and Nancy Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Lyle and Patricia Johnson, and Bill and Martha Engel.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi, with Pastor Mike Majeski officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Ethel B. Johnson

Ethel B. Johnson, age 97, of Lancaster, formerly of North Dakota, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home.

Ethelyn LeoLa Barnes was born in Oakes, North Dakota on December 6, 1915 on her mothers 32^nd birthday. Her mothers name was Ethelyn. Because she was named for her mother, she grew up being called Little Ethel. There is some irony here because Little Ethel was a 12-pound baby. Little Ethel had two older sisters named Kathie and Alice. They were 10 and 12 years older than she. She had a younger brother named Johnny. Her father was a man of all trades. He farmed, raised cattle and owned several businesses. He was a US Marshal who met Calamity Jane and rode posse with Frank James (Jesses good brother). Ethel graduated from Oakes High School when she was 16 years old. Her older sisters often were sent by their mother to watch over Ethel, even if she were attending a dance or school function. There were horror stories about Kathie and Alice hiding in the bushes just keeping an eye on Little Ethel. Her mother wanted her to wait for her brother, Johnny, to graduate from high school, so the two children could both go to college together at the State Teachers College in Ellendale, North Dakota. After college graduation Ethel took her first teaching job in a one-room schoolhouse in Brampton, North Dakota. She taught first through eighth grades. Because it was a country school, she lived with a farm family during the week and then returned home each weekend, weather permitting, often by horse and sleigh. In that one room schoolhouse she taught ten little Finnish children how to read. They did not speak one word of English, and there were state examinations, which needed to be taken each year before a student could graduate to the next grade level. Miss Barnes responsibilities included chopping wood, cooking lunch everyday on the wood stove for the students, cutting their hair, giving them a bath if needed, preparing lessons and correcting papers for 8 different grade levels, and passing those state examinations.

Ethel Barnes met Clifford Johnson when he moved to Oakes, North Dakota and took a job as the new high school Chemistry and Physics teacher. He had grown up on a farm in Milnor, North Dakota. After Pearl Harbor Clifford joined the US Navy, and the two of them began their married life together. The Johnsons loved to dance to the big bands of the 1940s. Ethel had a beautiful singing voice and often joined in with the band to sing a number or two. She was frequently called upon to sing at weddings.

When Clifford got out of the Navy he got a teaching job at Wisconsin State College in Platteville, now known as UW-P. Ethel was the 17^th faculty wife. She was very active in the Faculty Wives and started several bridge clubs. She loved to play cards and was very accomplished. She taught bridge classes at UW-P and often played Tournament Bridge. Ethel hails from an English and Irish card-playing family. Most holidays involved some kind of card game. Clifford did not share her enthusiasm for cards. Most summers were spent camping with a pop-up teepee trailer. Clifford loved campingEthel went along with it.

Ethel was a typical 1950s mom with many similarities to Lucille Ball, but not quite as goofy. She was always up to something. She was tall and thin and very pretty. Gert Olson lived next door, and she was definitely Ethel Mertz. Those two women shared their joys togethereven a backyard swimming pool. In fact all of the Siemers Street ladies were good friends and their children were all good friends. Ethel was an excellent cook and could sew anything. She made dozens of Barbie outfits, which included matching hats and handbags. One Christmas, she made 12 pairs of flannel pajamas for the female family members. They all fit. Ethel rarely used a pattern; she had a good eye. She could prepare a meal for 12 people without even going to the grocery store. She oftentimes had her bridge friends in for lunch and supper on the same day. She was also very artistic. She once chaired a Chinese New Years Ball and made a 25-foot-long dragon out of papier mache. She also was a very active member of the Platteville Garden Club. She had a flower border that was the envy of many. Her beautiful roses, irises and gladiolas were legendary, and the way she could arrange them won prizes.

She created beautiful jeweled Christmas tree ornaments, painted pictures, sculpted candles, and even made plaques out of record albums. She loved to decorate for the holidays. She always hosted an annual Christmas open house with dozens of varieties of homemade cookies and candy. The time and care that she put into these cookies and candies were memorable. She could change a tire, weld, quilt, crochet, tat and knit. No job was too big for her to tackle. She was a substitute teacher and was ready at a moments notice to report to whatever Platteville elementary school needed her for the day. Ethel joined PEO in 1958. She held several offices.

Clifford retired in 1974, and they moved back to Oakes, North Dakota. Ethel enjoyed several trips to Europe in her retirement years and joined her son, Steven, on several Mexican adventures in San Miguel and her daughter, Carol, on Waikiki Beach and the Rain Forest of Costa Rica. After her husband died, and her brother and sisters were gone, Ethel moved to Lancaster to be near her grandchildren. Ethel was a great mom, and she was an even better grandmother. Her grandchildren loved to go to her house everyday to share with her everything they had accomplished. Granny loved to spin a yarn. She not only read to her grandchildren, she created original stories with unique characters for each child. She also was a great listener. Their Granny was a daily part of their lives. She taught them how to cook and bake, taught them how to knit and sew, and she even taught them how to play poker. She had been a resident of Orchard Manor for the last seven years. After her son died in 2004, Granny was never quite the same. Her memory faded, but the sight of her grandchildren continued to bring a sparkle to her eyes.

Ethel Johnson is survived by her daughter, Carol (Emmett) Terwilliger, Lancaster, WI and grandchildren: Andrew Terwilliger, Taipei, Taiwan; Molly Ann Terwilliger, Atlanta, GA; Erik Johnson, Sarasota, FL; Abigail Ethelyn Johnson, Sarasota, FL; and great grandchild, Farah Ann Strub, Sarasota, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Johnson; her son, Steven Johnson; her sisters, Kathryn Kane and Alice PicKell; and brother, John Barnes.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is serving the family.

Jerry Johnson

Jerald M. Jerry Johnson, age 80, of Bloomington, died on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. He was born on March 6, 1931, in Ferryville, the son of Monroe and Elsie (Haven) Johnson. Jerry graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1949. He worked as a farm hand before attending Iowa State University. Jerry then moved out west and worked as a ranch hand before he joined the United Sates Marine Corp. and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse with his bachelors degree. Jerry was united in marriage to Violet Meyers on September 1, 1956. After his marriage, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he earned a masters degree in Geography. Jerry also obtained a masters degree in Guidance from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. He taught in the Wauzeka school system for four years, before moving to Bloomington where he was a teacher until his retirement in 1987. Jerry was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington and served on the original parish council. He was also a member of the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington and served as St. Marys Cemetery and Bloomington Cemetery caretaker for several years. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening, especially roses.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Johnson, Bloomington; their children: Dan (Nilda) Johnson, Gainesville, FL; Mike (Cheryl) Johnson, Cedar Rapids, IA; Michelle (Roger Given) Johnson, Colorado Springs, CO; Mark (Katrina) Johnson, Edgerton; seven grandchildren; his brother and sisters: Harriet Johnson, Lancaster; Marian Johnson, Gays Mills; Joan (Al) Steffes, West Bend; Betty Johnson, Soldiers Grove; John Johnson, Gays Mills; and Jean Ritter, Florence, CO; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerald was preceded in death by a son, Terry Johnson in 2004, and his brothers, James and Judd Johnson.

Jon L. Johnson

Jon L. Johnson, age 60, of Bagley, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at home. He was born October 1, 1947 in Cuba City, WI, the son of Lyle and Patricia (Doser) Johnson. Jon graduated from Potosi High School. He married Gwendolyn M. Brinkman on May 28, 1966 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Cassville. Jon was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Company. After its closure, he became an over the road owner/operator truck driver for Warren Transport. He dearly enjoyed spending time with his family. Jon and Gwen also enjoyed boating and fishing on the Mississippi River and traveling on their Harleys.

Jon is survived by his wife, Gwen, Bagley; two sons: Jon Johnson, Jr., Cassville and Jim (Linda) Johnson, Waukesha; grandchildren: Sara, Amber, Jacob, Jasen, Justin, Verity, Peter, Jessica, Haley and Celia; and three great-grandchildren: Alexis, Gavin and Hailey; his father, Lyle Johnson, Potosi; two brothers: Donald (Nancy) Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Potosi; his mother-in-law, Eileen Brinkman, Cassville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce Fishnick, Cassville; Gary (Carol) Brinkman, Cassville; Sandra (Gary) Adams, Cassville; Rick Brinkman, Cassville; Pat (Dave) Udelhoven, Soldatna, Alaska; Renee (Mick) Liebfried, Potosi; Mike Brinkman, Cassville and Jeff Brinkman, Cassville; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Johnson; grandson, Jon Paul Johnson; his father-in-law, Peter Brinkman and his brother-in-law, Walter Fishnick.

Funeral services was held on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Settlement Cemetery, Cassville. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 4:00 8:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Cassville. Friends also called after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Julia A. Johnson

Julia A. Judy Johnson, age 90, of Bagley, was called Home on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at her residence. She was born on June 16, 1922, in Fountain City, WI, the daughter of Frank C. and Martha (Glowski) Kamrowski. On October 30, 1941, Julia was united in marriage to Merlin C. Johnson in Winona, MN. After their marriage, she was employed as a factory worker in Onalaska and later cared for the elderly in various capacities. Julia was very loyal and fiercely independent. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Barbara McSparin, Meadowview, VA; Duane (Susie) Johnson, West Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren: Monique (Terry) Stam, Wendy (Matthew) Townsend, Eric (Erin) Johnson, Julie Johnson, and Amanda Johnson; eighteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; her only surviving sibling out of fifteen, Joe (Shirley) Kamrowski, Winona, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband on November 20, 1985; and her brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Jim Gregar officiating. Burial was on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in Bagley Cemetery, Bagley. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Lyle C. Johnson

Lyle C. Johnson, age 93, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.

Graveside services were held on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery in Potosi with Bill Manthe officiating. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville is assisting the family.

Pebble G. Johnson

Pebble G. Johnson, age 46, of Hurricane Mills, TN, formerly of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her residence. She was born on March 14, 1963, in Lancaster, the daughter of Glenn and Janice (Hough) Knapp. Pebble graduated from Lancaster High School in 1981. She attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore. Pebble was employed at Grant Regional Health Center as a Medical Billing Specialist. On July 25, 1998, she was united in marriage to Randy Johnson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. In 2008, Randy and Pebble moved to Hurricane Mills, TN. She was employed as a Medical Billing Specialist for the Outsource Group. Pebble loved spending time with her children and family. She also enjoyed her pets and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Randy, Hurricane Mills, TN; her daughters, Ashley Reynolds, Waverly, TN; Taylor Wilkinson, Potosi; her mother-in-law, Judy Johnson, Hurricane Mills, TN; her sister, Colleen Helgerson, Dubuque, IA; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Pebble was preceded in death by her daughter, Lindsey Reynolds and her father-in-law.

Funeral services were on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Pam Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends called on Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Pebble G. Johnson memorial fund has been established.

Robert Johnson

Kay Adrian Johnstone

Kay Adrian Johnstone, age 72, of Platteville, formerly of Cassville, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at her sons home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on April 1, 1940 to Francis and Pearl (Donaldson) Adrian. Kay grew up in Cassville where she raised her family. She worked at RDM and waitressed for years. She spent thirty-one years as a cook for the Cassville School District, which she loved, because she enjoyed all of the kids.

Kay is survived by her children, Kyle (Susan) Adrian of Maple Grove, MN, Angel Johnstone of West Allis, WI, Monique Johnstone of Platteville, Robert (Becky) Johnstone of Bloomington, and Nikki (Dan Brown) of LaCrosse; grandchildren: Alicia and Kyle Johnstone, Maddison, Taylor, and Payton Brown, David and LeAnne Adrian; great-grandson, Landon Udelhofen; sisters: JoAnn (Harold) Lenz; Donna Theisen; Shirley (David) Leamy; brother, Ron (Laurie) Adrian; nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her bothers: Randy, Bill and Nick Adrian, nephews, Ronnie and Joe Adrian, a great-niece, Trista Mumm and many aunts and uncles.

Russell W. Jones

Russell W. Jones, age 80, of Potosi, died on Monday, May 23, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. He was born on December 3, 1930, in Mineral Point, the son of Roy and Lavern (Crapp) Jones. Russell graduated from Rewey High School. On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty A. Schoenauer at Davies Memorial Church in Potosi. Russell was employed at Dubuque John Deere Works for thirty-one years. He served as a volunteer on the Potosi Rescue Squad and Fire Department for many years. Russell was a lifelong member of Davies Memorial Church in Potosi, where he held several offices. He was also a member of the Potosi Lions Club. Russell enjoyed fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Betty Jones, Potosi; children: Barb (Randy) Patzner, Stillman Valley, IL; Donna (Allan) Curtis, Potosi; Sandy (Tim) Wiest, Fennimore; Rick (Joanne) Jones, Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronnie (Myrtle) Jones, Frankfort, KY; Leroy (Marlene) Jones, Platteville; and one sister: Gaye Peacock, Hazel Green.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by three sisters: Evelyn, Corrine, and Linda; and one brother, Nelson.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Davies Memorial Church in Potosi with Pastor Petra Streiff officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Luana M. Juarez

Luana Marie Juarez, 65, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital, Janesville, WI.

She was born December 20, 1946 in Madison, WI the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Bockhop) West.

Luana married Manuel J. Juarez, Jr. on April 29, 1969 in Rock Island, Illinois. Manuel passed away on May 15, 2012. She was a Social Worker for Catholic Charities and Childrens Home and Aide Society in Rockford. Luana loved animals, cooking, reading and spending time with her family.

Luana is survived by her daughter, Sara (Ben) Koch of Orfordville, WI, her son, Brian (Tina) of Fort Atkinson, WI; 3 Grandchildren, Andy and Josh Juarez and Isabelle Koch.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were held at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, 100 Park Place, Platteville, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012, with Fr. Rudy Juarez officiating. A visitation was at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

A visitation was held at Newcomer-Silverthorn Chapel on the Hill, 3008 S Coon Island Rd, Orfordville, WI on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 4 to 6 p.m. Burial was in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont.

Loren Junk

Loren M. Junk, age 87, of Platteville, formerly of Cassville, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. Loren was born on February 23, 1927 in Glen Haven Township, WI a son of Arnold and Marie (Esser) Junk.

Loren married Elizabeth Betty Weber on August 28, 1950 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. After their marriage, they farmed for ten years near Bloomington. They then moved to Cassville and owned and operated the Town Pump Tavern for 17 years. Loren was also the rural mail carrier for the Cassville and Glen Haven Post Offices for 30 years until he retired at age 69. He was very active at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with the Knights of Columbus, and a honorary Red Cross blood donor.

Lorens love of God, family, friends, and farming kept him very busy. He enjoyed gardening, helping his children and others, and playing cards.

Loren is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Gregory (Shirley) Junk, Platteville, Nancy (David) Brunton, Platteville, and Terry (Diane) Yunk, Dodgeville; eight grandchildren, Amy Shellnutt, Jeanne Junk, Jeremy (Melanie) Junk, Cheri Brunton, Dan (Tracy) Brunton, Katie (Justin) Grinnell, Sara (Louie) Freise, and Chad (Shannon) Yunk; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Myrna (Harold) Clark, Arnold Junk Jr., Donna (Skip) Raisbeck, and Wayne (Arlene) Junk; a brother-in-law, Ron Bowers; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald Yunk; and a sister, Shirley Bowers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery. Friends called from 4:30 to 8:30 pm on Tuesday, May 27, at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville, where there was a prayer service at 4:30 pm, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the Church. Martin Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cassville is assisting the family.
